A Round-South Cebu Experience with my bike buddy

November 13, 2016 Sunday

I woke up fifteen minutes before my alarm was scheduled to set off at 4:00am. I quickly got out of bed and prepared breakfast (rice and corned beef). Prior to that, my excitement already woke me up at 12MN and 2AM.

My bike buddy Dennis started pedaling from A.S Fortuna Banilad at 4:00AM. We met at Star Mall, Lawaan Talisay and rode off at exactly 5:00AM. We had breakfast in Carcar (2nd time for me). We had a quick stop at Barili Milk Station ‘coz Dennis utilized their roadside comfort room.

Most of the bikers heading South would take their breakfast in this along the road cafeteria

The famous Molave Milk Station of Barili.

Right after the long descent of Barili to Dumanjug, I noticed that my right shifter would no longer function. We tried to fix it but to no avail. We decided to have it fixed by an expert. As we go along, we passed by a bike shop across CTU Moalboal and dropped by around 10am. The shifter is no longer repairable. I opted to have it replaced with a thumb shifter worth 80 pesos (mine was a trigger shifter).

 CTU Moalboal.

The ride saving shifter.

Off we go at 11:30am. We were pacing around 25kph and unknowingly we reached 35kph.

We arrived at 3:00pm in Santander and took a quick stop before the long way journey of Oslob. I’m almost out of energy that riding a bus home is already one of my options rather than resting for recovery. We managed to take only 2 photos of ourselves since my phone is already drained and Dennis' tab is almost dead to. My Strava app only ended up in Malabuyoc.

We arrived in Boljoon at 6pm and had our dinner. Town's fiesta was yesterday. Thank God that the eatery owner accommodated us for quite some time and let us watched T.V during our resting period.
Off we go again at 6:20pm and felt a slight recovery.

Our pace was slow that we reached Dalaguete by 9pm already. We stopped and took a not so short rest in 7/11.

Our flashlights and blinkers are almost out of batteries that we got chased by dogs along the way. The dog chase gave our pedaling a intense, lol.

I could no longer find a better hand position on my handle bars and even during our stopovers, I didn't know how to rest either to stand, sit or even lay down. There’s so much pain all over my body. As we go along the long roads of Argao, I humbly tempted Dennis that we should take a bus ride home. My exhaustion influenced my decision. My bike buddy was determined to finish the ride and was not influenced by my suggestion.

I keep on persuading Dennis that we should call off  and ride a bus home. I keep procrastinating the plan from town to town. Unfortunately no more mini-bus is available during those hours and Ceres bus won’t give a lift of our bike. I pedaled hard and it wasn’t smart coz It lessened my energy not the distance that we are yet to cover.

Carcar finally at 11:00pm and we already covered 249 kilometers. It’s almost midnight and we still have to report to work the next morning.

We took a multicab bound for Tabunok. Oh by the way, the 80pesos thumb shifter served its purpose throughout the entire route.

Home sweet home.

No honor was lost in this ride according to an experienced tourer.
