Insane Tour 2017 Opening Salvo
The road to Insane Tour was formally opened last June 1, 2017 as announced by AMTA's Tour Director - Romeo Delima.
The Opening Salvo was held last June 4, 2017, Sunday and participated by 33 brave bikers which already includes the guests. Guest bikers were from Cowboy Grill Bikers and Team Yotdaog. Rye Kido of Cebu Fixed Gear was also with us.
Our route was more than a hundred kilometers- a mixed of flats, uphills and downhills.
We departed the AMTA Station around 6:15 in the morning and start pedaling to Carcar.
Some late bikers came and caught up.
Majority of the bikers haven't eaten their breakfast yet and opted for a quick stop near Gaisano Carcar.

We then started pedaling from Awayan all the way to Valencia then Aloguinsan.
That route was my first time and so as the majority of the group.
The sun was up and slightly tickles.
Few of the bikers were already familiar of that route and pedaled ahead.
Some bikers pedaled smart and some pedaled slow.
I was in the mid pack of the group.
I could barely see the bikers who moved ahead, they might have sprinted and climbed so fast perhaps.
Ahead of us was a water vending machine that caught every bikers attention.
We decided for a quick stop and refill our water bottles. After a few minute chitchat, the last group of bikers caught up and joined us on our rest.
After a short break, we continued the uphill journey since the lead pack was quiet ahead already.
The top at last, downhill reward is waiting ahead. The lead pack took a rest on a roadside store and waited for our arrival. The store owner was kind enough to serve them water.
We were in-tacked once again.
The much awaited downhill is finally here. Off we go.
After a few minutes of pedaling, I noticed that my front tire was flat that forced me to pull off and check it out. A few seconds later, some of fellow bikers came along and joined me.
We pumped up the tire and decided to replace the inner tube once we arrived Aloguinsan proper.
Godwin Repunte of Cowboy Grill Bikers invited us for another stop for picture taking since a good spot was found.

Not everyone was able to partake on the above pictorial since they moved ahead.
We then re-grouped in Aloguinsan Proper, some just took a rest while some took the time to enjoy a meal. That was the best time to replace my bike's inner tube. Thanks to Rubas Bulantoy for lending his spare tube and to Allan Pujida for doing the job.
After enjoying the stop, we started to pedal again. We were on a peloton this time and was lead by Cowboy Grill Bikers and Team Yotdaog. We enjoyed riding in a pack and encouraged everyone to maintain the pace.

Our pace was quiet good enough that kept us in-tacked. I noticed that that the leading bikers was uneasy of our current speed. They want to break-free I suppose. And they just did.
Me and Sir Dondon Merto lead the majority of the pack and maintained a 25kph speed.
It was fun though the sun was burning. The laughter and chitchats kept us going until we arrived Toledo for lunch since it was 11:30 in the morning. Our stop was a bit longer this time since most of us were already drained and tired.
The sumptuous meal freshened us.
After gaining back some energy, we started pedaling again. We still have to conquer the steep climbs of Media Once before we get home.
We were in a peloton again and noticed some bikers ahead, it was the bikers who broke away from our peloton. They joined us once again as we started our journey towards the climbs.
Every biker has his own speed specially on uphills. We were divided. Some pedaled slowly while some attacked.
The sun was burning that time and was an additional burden to all of us.
Few of the bikers pedaled all the way up while some stop for a rest and walked.
We'll all get there anyway, I said to myself.
It has been a tradition that the bikers would re-group on a roadside eatery on the foot of Uling, Naga bridge. Everyone gathered and shared their stories of pain and joy.
Bryan Enad and Michael Ibañez who weren't able to join the our ride decided to met us in Uling and rode with us home.
